David D. Gilbert, M.D.
Dr. David Gilbert is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and has completed glaucoma fellowship training at Stanford University. He is a native of California and grew up in the east bay. He graduated from University of California, Davis with a degree in mechanical engineering and he also has a Master's degree in biomedical engineering.
Dr. Gilbert received his Medical Degree from Wake Forest University in North Carolina. He stayed at Wake Forest for his ophthalmology residency and served as co-chief resident and twice received the resident research award for his publications on glaucoma surgical advances. After residency, Dr. Gilbert returned to the West Coast to complete glaucoma fellowship training at Stanford University and was on the clinical staff during that time. He has authored several papers and given numerous lectures related to glaucoma care.
Dr. Gilbert currently is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of the American Glaucoma Society and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He currently serves as a councilor for the Glaucoma Research Foundation. He is a clinical faculty instructor at University of California, San Francisco and a past chair of the Ophthalmology department at John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek.
His clinical interests include cataract surgery, glaucoma care and comprehensive ophthalmology. As a glaucoma sub-specialist, he has expertise in both medical and surgical management of glaucoma. He has performed over 3,000 no injection, suture-less cataract procedures and hundreds of glaucoma surgeries and lasers. David resides in the East Bay with his wife and two children.
